Often
we’re asked, which style to use, or which style is more appropriate for a
particular project. This is a highly subjective issue, as it depends on many
parameters, such as:
1.
Does
the client really know what style is?
2.
Is
style important after all and why?
3.
What
style is in these days?
4. Do
I go for a timeless or “classic” approach or do I have the funds and the
enthusiasm
to renew my space every few years?
5.
What’s
the client’s favorite style?
6.
Does
the professional designer have a favorite style? Should he/she?
7.
Can
we mix and match different styles?
A
few remarks are in order. The style often arises from the design concept although professional designers are rather careful
using the word style, as it has become a synonym of fad. Also, it’s very challenging
yet very interesting to mix and match different styles; such as classic and
minimal. If you pull it off successfully, it can be very stimulating and
rewarding. Last but not least, the client has the final word, unless he/she trusts entirely the
professional designer and lets him take the lead.
