COUNTRY STYLE INTERIOR DESIGN - A PRIMER ON COUNTRY INTERIORS

Country style interior

Rustic, quaint, traditional, charming and unpretentious simplicity, are notions associated with the Country Style; whether French, English, or Greek Mediterranean. Or, perhaps, you’re after the look of American farmhouses, Spanish haciendas, French chateaus, and Tuscan villas. The rural way of life is associated with the childhood memories of our parents, in cozy, charming farmhouses or cottages; with animals and a simpler yet happier way of life.

ELEMENTS OF THE COUNTRY STYLE

Some of the characteristics or basic elements of Country Style, are:

1. Board-and-batten wood wall treatments. 
2. Plank floors. 
3. Wood-clad ceilings, where rough-hewn beams may be visible. Or, ceilings with vintage tin tiles (Embossed metal elements). 
4. In the kitchen: beaded-board cabinets, and open shelves near the sink. Also, ceiling-hung racks are popular; to hang pots and pans. 
5. In the bathroom: Porcelain tub, sink and toilet, while the wall features open shelves.
6. Wooden door headers. 
7. Fireplaces or cast-iron wood stoves. 
8. Metals may be wrought-iron, hammered copper, antiqued bronze, or zinc. 
9. Rooms are painted white or, in pastel, muted earth tones. Wallpaper may also be encountered. 
10. Floral fabrics and animal prints. For American country, country checks, plaids, and stripes are rendered in barn red. 
11. Traditional furniture of that era. 
12. Thematic paintings or lithographs. For example, English Country may depict hunting scenes, while Greek Mediterranean favors nautical themes. 
13. Last, flower arrangements in chipped enamel pitchers, old metal buckets or watering cans (The last two, in galvanized steel).

SOME FINAL THOUGHTS

People who are traditional or want a cosy home, would surely choose this style over minimalism or High-Tech style.

This is one style that's affordable to reproduce, as one may easily pick up these items in flea markets, yard sales or grandpa’s garage; and enjoy a nostalgic, simple and unpretentious life.
